Ellin speaks at the OPP General Headquarters in Orillia, Ontario for Holocaust Remembrance Month

November 22, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST

A lunchtime interactive presentation for the Ontario Provincial Police on the Jewish men and women who overcame antisemitism at home, and on the battlefield, to defeat Hitler, and rescue the survivors of the Holocaust in WWII.  Ellin Bessner is the author of “Double Threat: Canadian Jews, the Military, and WWII” which tells the untold Canadian story of the Jewish soldiers, airmen and sailors who served in the Second World War, despite great personal risk should they be captured by the Nazis and their Jewish faith be discovered. At the same time, they had the extra challenge of serving for a country where racism and discrimination against Jews was widespread, even at the highest levels of government. As we commemorate Holocaust Education Week 2019 across Ontario, and Remembrance Day 2019, Ellin will introduce you to some of these brave Jewish Canadians who were not the victims of the Holocaust, but the Liberators. Books will be available for sale and signing at the event.
